Circa 1890-97. Large terminus station set back behind road line. Pedimented Dutch gable over concourse entrance which has broad segmental glazed girder roof. The main station block is to the right of two and three storeys deep red brick set on obtuse angle with steep French hipped roof over slightly projecting western end bay. The glazed roof dies into first floor. Pedimented first floor windows. Arcaded ground floor windows. Three long platforms with single storey range of refreshment rooms etc to north. South-west of south west platform is a large segmental glazed girder shed on case iron columns, covering broad drive.
Giving onto it and to platform is a former Royal Waiting Room: single storey Bath stone ashlar with canted ends articulated by pilasters, cornice and parapet. Single and tripartite windows with curved voided corners. Segmental pedimented plaques with Royal Crowns flank entrance. Interior has suite of two rooms, top lit one with dome; elaborate fire-place surrounds and overmantels, rich carved mouldings; now used as store.
