Description

STRATFORD-UPON-AVON

SP2055SW GUILD STREET
604-1/8/98 (South side)
09/02/72 Nos.35 AND 36

II

Outbuilding, converted to pair of cottages, now office. Late
C16 with C20 restorations and alterations. Timber-frame with
plaster infill on rubble plinth; tile roof; brick stacks
removed. 2-unit right-angle plan. 2 storeys. Front has
entrance with C20 glazed door to right of central C20 glazing
to both floors and 3 C20 windows to gable, which has 2 collars
with struts and decorative barge-boards with finial. Returns
and rear have similar windows and entrances; rear has glazed
gable. Framing has full-height posts and 2 rails, braced wall
plates and tie beams. INTERIOR: beams and C20 stair. The
building was originally an outhouse at the end of the garden
of No.27 Bridge Street (qv) and because of the encroachment of
properties onto the old Guild Pits, now Guild Street, in the
mid C19, it is set back from the street.
