GV II

House. c1550 with c1800 extension into adjacent outbuildings
of Freshwell House (qv), additions of 1973. Timber-framed and
plastered over flint panel and brick dwarf wall, peg-tiled
roofs, also slate and clay tile, brick stack. U shape plan of
street range and C20 rear additions. 2 storeys. Front SE
elevation: 2 units taller to NW with stack and lower range
continuous with adjacent outbuilding peg-tiled, plaster has
remains of ashlar lining. Irregular 2 window range, central
doorway with C20 hood on brackets, door C20 boarded. Adjacent
to SW, C19 sash window with glazing bars 2x4 panes. To NE, C19
sliding sash window with glazing bars 6x4 panes. First floor,
one sliding sash in each unit, glazing bars, 6x3 panes. Rear
NW elevation: ground floor addition to each unit, slate and
clay tiled roof to larger and smaller units respectively.
First floor timber framing exposed. 2 C20 2-light casement
window with glazing bars, 4x2 panes, C20 single light casement
window at N end. Ground floor, C20 pargetted, small 3-cant bay
with fully glazed C20 French window, 3 C20 2-light casement
windows with glazing bars, two 2x3 panes, one 4x3 panes.
INTERIOR: larger NE unit c1550 has heavy ground floor ceiling
joists with step stopped chamfers and diminished haunched
soffit tenons, window shutter groove to street. First floor
has internal tension braced frame with jowled posts and
tie-beam, once arched braced. Also later primary braced
framing in end walls. SW room jettied with framing c1800 into
adjoining outbuildings.
