Delmonte from Cary Parade

This photo shows the main house to the right; believed to have been built circa 1815; and the later addition (a ballroom) to the left; believed to have been built circa 1850). Delmonte is the oldest surviving house on Warren Hill and was built by the Cary family for rent. In front of the building can be seen the wall of Rock Walk which was used as the only means of access from the old harbour to Torre Abbey on the other side of Warren Hill. The current area of flat land in front of the hill was reclaimed in the 19th century, and now includes a road and promenade.
