Formerly known as: Little Abbey.
Formerly known as: Ash Tree House.
House, now residential home. Early C19. Dressed stone; hipped
Welsh slate roof; 2 brick stacks to rear.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 3-window range: central Gothick-glazed
casement with lattice leaded lights, in canted porch bay with
cornices and castellated parapet; flanked by 6/6 sashes in
moulded cases with spandrels, under hood-mouldings. Central
entrance: margin-glazed 2-panel door, with ashlar porch;
flanked by canted ashlar bays with margin-glazed sashes. Left
returned side: 6/6 and margin-glazed sashes with moulded cases
and hood-mouldings; margin-glazed French windows with
overlight, under cast-iron porch. Rendered wing to rear with
margin-glazed sashes; semicircular basement light.
INTERIOR: open well staircase with stick balusters and swan
neck rail. 1st floor: 4-panel doors with architraves; panelled
risers and architraves to windows. Ground floor: marble
fireplace; ceiling-cornice; alcoves; 4-panel doors with
architraves; panelled risers with architraves; tiled fireplace
with wood surround. This property was built for the painter
David Cox, as was No.42 Venn's Lane (qv). He moved into it in
1823.
