GV II

Terraced houses. Late C18. Yellow brick, stucco, roofs
obscured by parapet. Three storeys over basement, two-window
range. Basement stuccoed and only slightly below street level;
ground floor of no. 541 also stuccoed with banded rustication.
Steps up to flat-arched entrance with plain stucco architrave
consisting of pilasters with plain entablature and minimal
cornice, pilaster capitals missing on no 541. All windows
flat-arched; no 539 has two windows to ground floor with heads
of gauged red brick; no 541 has one window with moulded stucco
architrave; windows to upper floors have gauged brick heads
except to second floor of no 539; parapet, with much
rebuilding; stacks to party walls.
INTERIOR: : no 539 has a round arch between entrance hall and
staircase with pilasters and archivolt; staircase with turned
newels and stick balusters, altered on second flight between
ground and first floors. Apart from this, only the top floor
of nos 539-41 could be inspected and revealed no original
features of interest.
