Public house. 1925. By L Kitchen. Red brick with
timber-framing and ashlar dressings, with plain tile roofs. 3
ridge stacks, with 1, 2 and 3 flues set diagonally. Single
gable stack. Chamfered plinth. 2 storeys; 3x8 windows. Corner
site with splayed corner. Windows have leaded glazing.
Angled corner entrance bay has a projecting porch with jettied
first floor, coved eaves, and lattice-framed gable with
bargeboards. First floor canted oriel window with a 3-light
cross casement, and below it, a pargeted panel inscribed
"Haworth Arms". Below, segment-arched opening doorway with
recessed doorway. On either side, a stone mullioned cross
casement.
Left return, to Cottingham Road, has a first floor balustraded
gallery with wooden posts. To left, a 2-light mullioned
casement and to right, a half-glazed door with sidelights.
Below, two 3-light stone mullioned casements. To left, a
projecting timber framed gable with jettied first floor and a
canted wooden 3-light oriel window. Below, a canted 3-light
bay window.
Right return, to Beverley Road, has a similar gallery with a
central half-glazed door and sidelights, flanked by single
2-light casements. Below, a central moulded recess with
hoodmould and an elliptical-arched door. On either side, a
3-light stone mullioned cross casement. To right, a projecting
jettied gable with bargeboards and a canted 3-light wooden
oriel window. Below, to left, a blocked doorway, and to right
a 6-light window with wooden mullions.
To right again, a lower 2-storey range, 4 windows, with a
close studded first floor and four 3-light windows with wooden
mullions. Below, to left, a moulded segment-arched doorway
with double doors, and to right, two 6-light windows with
wooden mullions.
INTERIOR has a panelled oval entrance lobby with revolving
half-glazed doors. Main bar has panelled walls with close
studding above, and a shallow glazed dome with enriched
border. At one end, a short stair to a low balcony with twist
balusters. Panelled bar has panelled back bar fittings with
pediment and mirrors. On the bar, 5 brass lamps with twisted
stems. Smaller adjoining bars have cross beam ceilings and
curved half-glazed screens and doors.
