(Formerly Listed as:
SILVER STREET
(South side)
No.13)
GV II
Shop and rear warehouse range. Mid/late C18, altered mid/late
C19. Painted Flemish-bond brick, with Ham Hill stone
dressings, slate roof with brick stacks.
2 storeys; 5-window range. Probably once house and shop, since
the left side is virtually symmetrical 2-window range and the
right was 3-window range. The 2 parts cant very slightly
forward and are articulated by painted stone pilasters with
simple stepped mouldings to the tops and similar stepped
brickwork to form 2 bands below the unpainted cornice.
No.12A, to the left, has a 6-panel door with a semicircular
overlight, set in a moulded archivolt and flanked on the left
by a carriage entrance with a segmental arch, and on the right
by a C20 shop window, beneath which are ornamental cast-iron
bars to the basement below. The first floor has early C19
bay-windows, flat to the front and curved to the sides; 3
vertical glazing bars to each sash, the outer panes are
quadrant-curved; stone brackets to the sills, and moulded
cornices flanked by ornamental brackets.
No.13, to the right, has two 8/8-pane sashes to first-floor
right and a late C19 bow window under a wooden lintel and
supported by a single bracket, inserted to the left. The
double shop front, probably late C19, has segmental arches
over plate-glass windows with glazing-bars to top lights, and
a window, probably a former door, to the left: to the rear is
an extensive rubblestone wing which is now part of the shop.
INTERIOR: ground floor is altered, the front shop and rear
wing now being one space; rest not inspected but likely to be
of interest.
