House. C18, altered late C19 and 1990.
MATERIALS: limestone rubble with stepped stone coping to left
gable end, and 3 brick stacks, one to the left, and two the
centre of the ridge of the slate roof.
PLAN: single-unit plan, with late C19 extension, it is a right
rear wing to Ashlands House (qv), but a separate property.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 3-window range. All windows to the front
are c1990 under gauged flat stone arches and C20 lintels,
windows to the rear are under gauged cambered arches: 3-light
casements with small panes to the left and late C19 horned
2/2-pane sashes to the right. c1990 door in a plain stone
porch.
INTERIOR: the unit to the left, attached to Ashlands House
(qv), has an open fireplace with a stone jamb to the right, an
oak lintel which has been cut and is now supported by a brick
wall to the left, to make access to the C19 extension to the
rear; a stop-chamfered beam rests on the lintel of a C19
window to the rear. The room above has a C19 fireplace,
otherwise the interior is altered. There is said to be a well
in the centre, to the rear of the original dwelling.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached to the south-east corner is a
low Ham Hill stone wall extending to the left and fronting
Ashlands House; it has alternate loop-and spearhead railings
with fleur-de-lys finials and a matching gate to the right.
