GV II

Terraced houses. 1828-33. Developed by James Rhodes and
probably designed by J.W.Griffith. Yellow brick set in Flemish
bond, stucco dressings, mansard roofs of Welsh and artificial
slate. Four storeys over basement, two windows each except no
16 which has three windows, the left-hand bay recessed and
much rebuilt. Basement and ground floor stuccoed, the ground
floor decorated with chamfered rustication. Round-arched
entrance with pilaster jambs with incised ornament and
entablature; fanlight with decorative glazing except to no 16,
panelled doors of original design except to no 16.
Ground-floor windows flat-arched; stucco terminates with
first-floor sill band. Upper windows flat-arched with gauged
brick heads and the first-floor windows set in a recessed
round-arched panel with gauged brick head and springing band,
except right-hand bays of no 16. 6/6 sashes of original design
except to left-hand bay of no 16. Moulded stucco cornice and
parapet. Dormers in roof except to no 16 whose two right-hand
bays rise to an attic storey with two round-arched windows and
parapet. Area railings with tassellated spearhead finials,
mostly replacement.
