16 terraced houses. 1850s. Stucco over brick and exposed brown
stock brick laid in Flemish bond. Roof obscured by parapet.
Sidehall entrance with staircase. 4 storeys with basement, 2
windows each. Terrace composed of projecting centre block of 4
houses flanked by recessed blocks of 4 houses and with
projecting end blocks of 2 houses; each block articulated by
imitation stucco chamfered quoins. Stuccoed basement. Banded
stucco ground floor with storey band and recessed,
square-headed openings with radiating heads in imitation
keystones. Most sashes altered, sills supported by console
brackets; original cast-iron window-guards in rococo style
with egg and dart motif to base. On right, steps rise to
doorway: most with original 4-panelled door and plain
rectangular overlight. No. 32 3 windows wide with entrance bay
to side. Upper floor of plain stucco with sill band to
architraved, full-length, 1st floor recessed sash-windows.
Double balconies supported by console brackets and with
original cast-iron railings of scroll, floral and husk
pattern. Square-headed, recessed sash-windows diminishing in
height upwards from 1st floor, all with architraves. 3rd floor
architraves with lugs; storey band of recessed panels. (No. 46
stripped of details on upper floors). Nos. 40, 42, 46, 48, and
50-8 with modillioned stucco cornice and parapet. Party-wall
chimney stacks. Some with original attached iron porch and
area railings.
