7/26 Crooked Cottage about 80 metres
- south-east of Bow Bridge
GV II
Cottage, now in centre of an L-shaped range with Privet Cottage on one side and
Pump Cottage on the other (neither of these is included in the listing). Late C16
or C17. Solid, roughcast walls, probably of cob. Thatched roof. In rear (north-
west) wall is a large stone rubble chimneystack, slightly tapered, with weatherings
and tapered cap. L-shaped. 2 storeys. 1-window front to south-east, with C20
door and porch to right. Windows mostly 019 wood casements with glazing-bars, but
to left of door is a C20 bay window. Interior not inspected but there seems to be
a C20 tiled fireplace corresponding to the early external stack. The cottage
probably contains a large open fireplace and other early features concealed under
plaster.
The 3 cottages were known as Little Burne Cottages in early C19 (information from
title deeds of Manor House, Love Lane).
