GV II

Terraced houses. c.1828-30. Yellow brick set in Flemish bond,
stucco, roof obscured by parapet. Three storeys over basement
except nos 61-5 which have a fourth attic storey; two windows
each except nos 53 and 73 which have one-window range.
Basement and ground floor stuccoed, the ground floor decorated
with banded rustication. Steps up to round-arched entrance
with fluted quarter-columns except on nos 53 and 57-9 which
have plain pilaster-jambs, fanlight with decorative glazing to
all except nos 51-5. Windows to ground floor round-arched,
those to upper floor flat-arched with gauged brick heads,
except those to nos 61-5 which have round arches to the first
floor. Iron balconies to first -floor windows except on no 71.
Mainly 6/6 sashes of original design, including those with
radiating glazing bars and margin lights to ground floor.
Parapet, except to nos 61-5 which have moulded stucco cornice
above second floor, and a similar cornice with stepped profile
above the third floor; and no 73 which has a giant order of
paired pilasters to first and second floors supporting
entablature and pediment. No 53, which would have matched no
73, has the stripped relics of such ornament and no pediment.
Stacks on party walls. Cast-iron railings to area. Nos 51-75
Theberton Street form the south side of Gibson Square.
