Former house now shop, offices and surgery with C15 undercroft. C16 with
C18 and C20 alterations. Rendered timber frame at first floor and brick
stair turrets to rear range. Brick street range. Pantile roofs. L-shape
plan with the longest axis at right-angles to the street line. Street
facade:- 3 storeys, 5 bays. C20 shop front with central door. Sash windows
throughout with glazing bars and rubbed brick flat arches. Bracket cornice.
The left-hand, ground floor ceiling has heavy C16 cross-beams and joists.
Rear range:- At right angles to and away from street line behind the width
of the C16 timber ceiling in the street range, and mostly hidden by adjoining
buildings. C19 entry from yard off White Lion Street:- door with moulded
2-centre arch, casement window to the right and blocked window to the left,
both with drip moulds. Oriel window at first floor with crenellated parapet.
Interior:- partly re-made frieze windows on first-floor south wall. Arch-
braced tie-beam first floor ceiling with later C16 battens inserted and
braces removed. Re-framed linen-fold panelling with the rebus Q and vat
for Curat. Undercroft:- brick. At right-angles to and away from street-line.
2 bays each within diagonal and cross ribs and blocked side chambers. Re-
positioned door at the west end with moulded jambs and carved spandrels.
Scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
