Includes: Nos.7 AND 9 Victoria Buildings THORNILEY BROW. Warehouses and workshops, probably for boot and shoe manufacturers; undergoing renovation at time of survey. Probably c.1860; altered. Red brick with sandstone dressings, slate roof. Large triangular plan with narrow chamfered corners, on triangular island site, probably with internal courtyard or light-well. Italianate style. Five storeys over basement, 22 windows; with stone plinth, 1st-floor sill-band, bracketed eaves and hipped roof. The ground floor has windows (a), doorways (b) and waggon archway (c) arranged a-a-a-b-b-a-a-b-c-a-a-b-a-a-b-b-a-a-a: the windows and doorways in arcades of round-headed arches with stone imposts and moulded stone heads with keystones, the doorways also with cornices, and the waggon archway is segmental-headed, with a keyed stone head and cornice. The upper floors have very regular closely-spaced fenestration, the windows of the 1st and 2nd floors segmental-headed and arcaded, those at 1st floor with linked stilted stone heads and those at 2nd floor with hoodmoulds. The 3rd and 4th floors (partly concealed by scaffolding at time of survey) appear to be square-headed, with flat-arched heads and keystones. Some windows unglazed at time of survey, but most 4-pane sashed. Various chimneys. Rear similar but simpler, but with paired full-height loading slots. Interior not inspected.
