PADSTOW DUKE STREET (south side), Padstow
SW 9075-9175
8/74 Nos. 21, 23 and 25
GV II
3 houses, possibly originally one large house. Probably C17 origins remodelled in
C19 and divided into 3 houses. Rendered and painted stone rubble. Asbestos slate
roof with gable ends. Early crested ridge tiles and moulded eaves cornice. Brick
front lateral stack.
Plan: The original plan is uncertain and the houses have been extended to the rear.
It is possible that this range originally comprised one large house of 3-room and
passage plan, and was divided into three 1-room plan cottages. However, the interior
was not accessible and the original arrangement is unclear.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front with ground sloping down to the
left. Complete early C19 12-pane sashes on the first floor. No. 21 to left has a
probably C19 4-pane sash and C19 door with 2 sashes above. No. 23 and 25 share the
front entrance opening and each have separate doors which are set back within. Each
have a 4-pane sash on the ground floor and 12-pane sash above.
Interior: Not accessible. An interior inspection may reveal several interesting
features and would aid an analysis of the plan development.
