Description

LANCASTER

SD4761NE NEW STREET
1685-1/7/201 (West side)
18/02/70 No.6

GV II

House, now shop with a dental surgery above. Late C18, altered
C19 and C20. Sandstone ashlar and a slate roof. Double-depth
plan with a shallow rear wing to the right.
3 storeys, above a cellar, and 3 bays. The ground floor now
has a mid C20 shop front and a doorway, with overlight, to the
upper floors to the right. The door, with below 4 triangular
panels set within an X-shaped frame and above 3 vertical
panels, all raised and fielded, may be original, though
probably ex situ. There was a band above the ground-floor
windows, there is a sill band on the first floor and a
projecting plain frieze above the second-floor windows. All
the windows have plain reveals. Those on the first floor have
Victorian 4-pane sashes. Those on the second have their
original 9-pane sashes. Chimneys to left and right.
