5 shops arranged around a courtyard, which until about 1870 was the old market place.
Circa early C19. Stone rubble base, partly rendered and painted, partly slate hung
first floor. Cement washed scantle slate and asbestos slate roofs with brick axial
and front lateral stacks.
Plan: Triangular plan arranged around an open courtyard used as a sheep, pig and
cattle market until circa 1870. The east rounded corner comprises a shop with 2 shop
fronts, The south elevation to the Strand contains 2 shops whilst the west front to
Market Place comprises the central entrance to the courtyard and is flanked by W.J.
Prior and Son on the south and Gift Horse and Cornish Stone Co. Ltd. on the north.
Exterior: 2 storeys. East elevation to harbour has a rounded corner with C20 shop
windows, and doors on the ground floor and 2 hornless 12-pane sashes on the first.
The south elevation to the Stand is hung with asbestos slates whilst the west
elevation to Market Place is hung with rag slates with two C20 shop fronts to left,
partly blocked entrance to courtyard and C20 shop front and door to right. First
floor with four 16-pane sashes to left and early C19 16-pane sash to right.
Interior: not inspected.
