The Manor House and Garden Wall to the South of the Manor House

A Grade II Listed Building in Ottery St Mary, Devon

The Manor House South side 1966

Uploader's Comments

The Pugh family (parents and eight children) occupied the Manor House under a tenancy granted by the then Lord Coleridge, initially at £350 p.a., from 1966 to 1978. Prior to this period it had been used as one of three premises of the Otter School, along with Sandrock House and another house in The College. The school left in a hurry, having failed financially, and the premises and grounds were in poor repair. Under the terms of the tenancy, Mr and Mrs Pugh repaired, redecorated and maintained the house and gardens. The walled kitchen garden was fully cultivated. Plenty more pictures if anyone is interested. There is a detailed statement of condition of the the house and grounds in 1966.
