Pair of terraced houses. c.1800-20 Portman Estate development. Stock
brick with channelled stucco ground floors; concealed slate roofs. 4
storeys and 5 storeys on basement. 2-window wide fronts. Right hand
doorways and ground floor windows recessed for one order in arcade, No. 54
with Tuscan columned, dentil corniced porch, panelled doors and fanlights.
Recessed sashes, under flat gauged arches to upper floors. Plat band
finishing off ground floor stuccowork; stone coped parapet to No. 56;
stucco string over 3rd floor of No. 54 and crowning dentil cornice and
blocking course to top floor. Original, cast iron, geometric patterned
balconies to 1st floor. Cast iron area railings with urn finials.
