Description

TEDBURN ST MARY GOLDS LANE
SX 89 SW

3/85 Little Haven and adjoining barn

- II

House and adjoining barn. Circa early C17 origins, extension probably of the C18,
C19 refurbishing and rear additions. Colourwashed rendered cob on stone rubble
footings; thatched roof gabled at left end, hipped at right end over adjoining barn.
Single depth 3-room plan with the doorway immediately opposite the axial stack
forming a lobby entrance. The former plan may have been 2 rooms wide or possibly a 3
room and passage house rebuilt at the lower (right) end (change in plane of rear
wall) in the C18. An adjoining barn, set slightly forward at the right end, is
probably also C18. A single storey rear left kitchen is probably a C19 addition, rear
lean-to, formerly storage for cider, is now part of the house accommodation.
2 storeys. Irregular 5+1-window front, the thatch brought down over the adjoining
right-hand barn which has a timber mullioned ground floor window. Front door to
right of centre, late C20 buttress to right of front door. 5 first floor, 4 ground
floor 2- and 3-light casements windows with small panes.
Interior The hall has a chamfered cross beam with step stops and a large open brick
fireplace. The right-hand room has a circa early C19 parlour china cupboard on the
rear wall; the stair rises from the lobby against the front wall of the-house.
Roofspace of house not inspected, trusses of barn appear to be C18.
The house is on the roadside on Golds Lane, the survival of the thatched barn is
attractive and unusual.
