II

House. Circa mid C19. Probably brick, the front elevation stuccoed and blocked out,
the side elevations rendered; hipped slate roof with 2 gabled projections to the
front elevation and one to the left return with eaves carried on shaped timber
brackets; brick stacks. Italianate villa style. A deep plan, only 2-rooms wide, the
2 main rooms at the front project on either side of a recessed entrance to the
central stair hall. The secondary rooms and services are behind.
2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-bay front, the outer bays with gables treated as open
pediments with blind bullseyes, the right-hand bay slightly advanced. The central
bay is narrower and set back with a good porch with Ionic columns and an entablature
and a 2-leaf half-glazed front door with margin glazing. 3-light windows with semi-
circular lights except ground floor window left, 3-light with square heads, and the
first floor window above the porch which is 2-light with semi-circular lights. A
short gabled projection on the left return is treated similarly to those on the
front.
Interior Mid C19 features survive, including chimney-pieces, shutters and a stair
with stick balusters. An attractive mid C19 villa in a prominent position
overlooking the road.
