County Court, now club. Mid C19. White brick with hipped slate roof, with
elaborate modillion and dentil eaves cornice and frieze of patterned burnt
brickwork. Internal stacks with raised panels to sides and entablature with
projecting capping. Double pile plan. In Italianate style. Two storeys and
attic with main cornice of moulded band below six attic windows, and a band
between ground and first floors. Cut and moulded brickwork surrounds to six
round headed arches with raised key blocks to first floor windows. The four
centre windows are coupled. Band at impost height with frieze of burnt
brickwork below. Channelled rustication to ground floor with four similar
window openings flanked by two round headed arches in slightly projecting
bays with dentilled cornice. The right hand entry has a Royal Coat of Arms
in stucco above the double recessed archway leading to the courtroom. The
left hand carriageway with panelled doors and grille above. Interior: the
original staircase is still intact as is the coffered ceiling to the
courtroom, now obscured, and an archway on moulded corbels from robing room
to the Court.
