Linthwaite Hall Barn Immediately to East of Linthwaite Hall



Circa 1600. Former cruck barn. Original roof and walls replaced by asbestos
cladding after fire in 1940's. Formerly 5 large crucks. Only 1 complete
cruck and 2 part crucks remain. Original trusses comprised of: 2 crucks
meeting at apex with ridge tree, upper collar, lower collar, tie-beam. Upper
and lower purlins supported rafters. Purlins were braced. Crucks on stone
footings and have 'lever-holes' (for lifting into position) and notches to
accommodate wall posts. Cruck base measures 1'10" x 11". Barn documented
in 'Early Timbered Buildings of the Huddersfield District' by James Walton,
