Two houses, now a single dwelling. Left-hand house is early C17, right-hand house is late C18.

MATERIALS: Coursed limestone rubble. Left-hand house has thatched roof. Right-hand house has stone slate roof .

EXTERIOR: Both houses of two storeys. Left-hand house is of 3-unit plan, with C19 three-light casements. Left-hand bay has C19 plank doors to main entrance and loft. Brick ridge stack and stone end stack. Right-hand house is of 2-unit plan with brick end stack. C19 plank door and three-light casements beneath timber lintels.

INTERIOR: Not surveyed.

REASONS FOR DESIGNATION:
No. 1 Franklin Close is designated Grade II for the following principal reason:
* Early fabric: a pair of C17 and C18 vernacular stone cottages.
