Town house in row. Late C17; C19 wing of various builds to rear.
Roughcast render; random rubble; brick and timber framing to rear
wing; brick chimneys; plain tile to front roof slope, stone slate
to rear. Three-storey with attic; 2-storey rear wing formerly
separate cottages. Front: 3-window casement fenestration with
ovolo-moulded stone mullions. Two ground floor windows with king
mullions 2 + 2 all under combined hoodmould; doorway to right with
bolection moulded architrave and 6-panel fielded door. Two 3-light
and one 2-light to middle floor and three 2-light to upper floor
all under combined hoodmoulds. Three gables to attic, each with
moulded oval window; C19 terracotta gable finials. Rear: 2
gables with gabled projecting staircase wing at centre with 2-light
ovolo-moulded mullioned casement on two levels. Gable to left with
2-light ovolo-moulded mullioned casements on two levels. Gable to
left with 2-light ovolo-moulded mullioned casement to middle floor
and C20 upper floor casement. Right gable obscured by rear wing,
partly built in brick. Upper floor workshop for cabinet maker at
end of wing has timber framed panels with weatherboarded cladding
and shingle roof.
Interior has ogee moulded beams to ground and middle floor, hollow
moulded in upper floor, all with run-out stops. Oak dog-leg
staircase with turned balusters. Good late C18 or early C19 iron
fireplace in an Adam-style in middle floor room. Stone-lined well
in garden may pre-date house. Was formerly White Hart Inn, but
built as town house, said to have been for Flemish clothier.
