House, latterly inn, now reverted to domestic use. Early to mid-C19, possibly
incorporating parts of an earlier building, later additions and alterations.
Rendered slate-stone and slate hanging to rear; asbestos slate roof, hipped
to projecting range and to left of main range. Plan in 3 units with hipped
cross-wing projecting at upper end on street corner; long stepped range to left.
At the rear a lower service wing with large lateral stack. In the angle between
the main range and cross-wing a 2-storey lean-to, formerly a porch. 2-storeys.
1:1:1 windows to road. 20-pane glazing bar sash on each floor to left, 20-
pane glazing bar sash to centre on first floor with small casement to right
and small 20-paned glazing bar sash directly below. Projecting cross-wing has
3-light CL9 casement to first floor and 24-paned glazing bar sash off-centre
to ground floor, all glazing bar sashes horned. Integral lateral stack to left
of left window and ridge stack with real brick top at junction between left
and centre sections. Left wall of main (range/slate-hung) has 20-paned glazing
bar sash over tripartite 6:24:6 - paned glazing bar sash. Back of this range
is mainly slate-hung with small 2-light casement and glazing bar sashes: part-
glazed C20 door in internal angle. The return wing has 2-light casement to
upper right and a 24-paned glazing bar sash to ground floor. There are 2 lean-
to buttresses propping a bulging section of wall. The -lower unit has two 2-
light casements, a small single-light casement and door to ground floor 3 scattered
lights to gable then a 3-light casement to the south front, to the left of a
large external eaves stack raised in brick. Interior: Retains some C19 doors
but otherwise much altered C19 and C20. Part of an internal cob wall survives.
In process of considerable alteration at time of resurvey (November 1987).
