Row of 4 cottages. Late C17 or earlier origins, remodelled and extended late
C18/early C19 with later additions and alterations. Roughly coursed slate-
stone with granite quoins, mainly rendered or painted, large section to garden
side of No 4 slate-hung; slate roofs, hipped to left end and with deep boarded
eaves to large section on garden side of No 4. Long range aligned approximately
east-west along road (east part, No 4, is earliest) with prominent late C18/early
C19 addition (also part of No 4) to rear on east. 2 storeys. No 1 (right cottage)
has late C19 three-light casement on each floor. Half-glazed mid-c2O door to
left and integral end stack to right. Nos 2 and 3 have 5 glazing bar sashes
to first floor, all 12-paned with horns except third from left without, plus
one 16-paned without horns to right. Half-glazed door to left to each cottage,
left with 3-light multi-panel C19 casement to right, right with paired C20 glazing
bar sashes to right. Ridge stack shared between cottages and integral end stack
to right. No 4 Road side has 3-light iron-barred window/possibly in position
of former doorway) to left section. Centre section has 3 glazing bar sashes
on first floor, C18 casement with L-hinges to left and C19 casement to right
of roughly central flush 4-panel door under lean-to hood. Right section has
prominent external lateral stack to left with rectangular casement on first
floor and 4-panel door to left; mid-C20 casement on first floor and fixed-light
window on ground floor to right. Ridge stack to centre of left section ana
integral end stacks to right of centre and right sections. Wall attached to
left end of No.4 has stilted round-headed granite arch with hollow spandrels,
moulded jams and plank door leading to garden. Prominent late C18/and C19 addition
to this side has 3-window front; 16-paned glazing bar sashes with granite keystones.
Central slate-hung gabled porch. External end stacks, right with single-storey
hip-roofed lean-to abutting. Interior. inspection of No 3 only possible at
time of resurvey (November 1987). Has through-passage with C18 two-panel door
to right side. Back room has coved wooden cornice and panelled inset wall cupboards
with plastered surrounds, probably late C18/early C19. No 4 noted as having
panelled window shutters to window to right of door in centre section and to
windows of rear section.
