WARE TOWN
BLUECOAT YARD
(West side)
No.2

GV
II*

House. C17. Timber-framed now plastered, pebbledashed and
colourwashed, old tiled roof with 2 gabled casement dormers.
2 storeys and attics. Ground and first floors, two 3-light
casement windows with glazing bars, central door in moulded
architrave surround, coved plaster eaves cornice. This
structure is different both from those which pre-date the
Christ's Hospital acquisition of Bluecoat Yard in 1685 (The
Old Stables and No.1 (qv) and the terrace specially built as
`nurse cottages' (Nos 3-12 (qv); the house has a comparatively
wide frontage and is only one room deep, although its general
appearance is similar to Nos 3-12 indicating remodelling of an
existing structure to give an overall visual unity.
