MONKTON STREET
1.
1577
(East Side)
No 23
SZ 5992 3/276

II GV

2.
Similar to No 19, circa 1840 of two storeys and basement faced in stone
coursed in imitation of bricks, rendered painted rusticated quoins, first
floor sill course and plinth. Low pitch hipped slate roof with bracketed
eaves, three windows, recessed, sash but no glazing bars. Central recessed
door of four moulded panels, semi circular fanlight with radial glazing
bars, stepped reveals. In front is a delicate wire trellis porch with
barrel vaulted lead roof, the eaves curling up, and scrolled tracery
spandrels to the front arch. A flight sof three steps leads up to the
door, flanked by mid C19 cast iron balustrades, still retaining, how-
ever, the Anthemion motife. The balustrades link up with cast iron
railings facing the pavement, but a number of the spikes are missing.

Nos 18 to 25 (consec) form a group.
