Cl7 (datestone and initials GEW 1693). Detached barn, now residential activity centre.
MATERIALS: Coursed rubble (millstone grit). Quoins. Pitched stone slate roof (recently turned). Moulded footstones to north west gable.
EXTERIOR
North East elevation: large doorway with quoins and deep oak lintel. Outshut to right with smaller doorway with quoins and chamfered reveals.
North West gable: Later windows. Small vent in apex of gable with chamfered millstone grit surround.
South East gable: small millstone grit circular vent in apex of gable with inscription and date: GEW 1693.
South West elevation: small central doorway with chamfered millstone grit surrounds and lintel. Moulded millstone grit corbels formerly supported canopy over doorway.

HISTORY
New Hey farmhouse and barn date from at least 1693, the land being farmed by the Holdsworth family for many years before it was taken over by the Water Authority during construction of Scammonden Dam in the 1960s. The farm was included in the lease of Scammonden Water Sailing Club in the 1960s but was disused until being taken over by the District Scout Council and converted to a residential outdoor centre.
REASONS FOR DESIGNATION
The barn to the North West of New hey farmhouse is designated at Grade II for the following principal reasons:
* The farm dates to the late C17
* Although the barn has been converted for use by activity groups it survives relatively intact and retains a number of original features, such as a datestone of 1693, an oak lintel in the doorway, and moulded millstone grit corbels.
* The barn has group value with the associated farm house to the South East (qv)
