6/18 Congregational Chapel

Congregational chapel built in 1818 (stone plaque in parapet).
Local brown brick with rusticated stone quoins and stone cill
band and plinth band. Two storeys with symmetrical facade.
Three first floor double recessed round-headed brick arches with
stone key block and imposts. Hung sash windows similar to
Wesleyan chapel, The Crescent, possibly replacements, shaped to
round headed arches with margin glazing bars. Two similar
windows flank doorway with rusticated stone jambs, deep flat
stone arch with cornice and fanned key block. Large rectangular
fanlight with margin glazing bars. Modern double doors
approached by stone steps. Two storey Sunday School built in
1911, to west with matching details to chapel and rusticated
jambs to archway. Interior of chapel has original gallery on
three sides with panelled balustrade and slender iron column
supports. Fluted and sunk-panelled pilasters flank dais arch
with organ in recess. Three two-light ground floor windows with
arched glazing bars have early C20 stained glass.
