Oakes School
SE 1117 26/1072
Mid C19. Hammer dressed atone. Ashlar dressings. Pitched slate roof. Coped gables:
iron finials. One storey and attic. Complex plan with many gables. Windows mainly
either mullion and transom crosses, or mullioned with Caernarvon lintels. Doors
either 2 or 4-centres, moulded surrounds, hoodmoulds. Some cusped oculi.
Buttresses. Dominant feature is tower over Boys' entrance: 4 storeys: strings set-off:
clocks on 2nd floor: machicolated cornice: timber 3rd floor with studs and diagonal
planking: very steep pyramidal roof, sprocketed.
