TQ 2881 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER HARLEY STREET, W1 45/21 (West side) 10.9.54 Nos. 107 and 109 G.V. II* Terraced town houses. c.1777 Portland Estate development probably by John White in partnership with the plasterer Thomas Collins (associates of Sir William Chambers). Stock brick with boldly channelled stucco ground floors; slate roofs. Bowed rear. 4 storeys, basements, and dormered mansards. 3-window wide fronts. Broad semicircular arched doorways to left. No.109 retaining vermiculated Coade stone surround with head keystone, No. 107 altered probably c.1900 with cornice curved over and panelled jambs flanking door beneath fanlight; No. 109 retains panelled door with entablatured framed side lights and recessed doorhead beneath patterned fanlight as Venetian window composition. Recessed sashes, in stucco architrave to upper floors and with cornices over on 1st floor. Parapets with stone copings. Cast iron c.1840 bombé 1st floor balconies. Cast iron urn finialed area railings. Fine interiors typical of these speculative 1st rate 1770s houses in Harley Street and elaborated above the norm with arched hallway openings to top lit, stone geometrical staircases with scrollwork wrought iron balustrades, ornamented oval skylight drums; delicate flute and patera and wreath and garland plasterwork to friezes and ceilings, stucco mythological relief medallions a la Chambers, framed by garlands, over Ionic columned and pilastered inlaid marble chimneypieces, in main rooms; mahogany doors; panelled shutters; etc.
