Terraced town houses. c.1777 Portland Estate development, probably by
John White in partnership with the plasterer Thomas Collins (associates of
Sir William Chambers). Stock brick; slate roofs. 4 storeys and basement.
3-window wide fronts. Semicircular arched doorways adjoining to left and
right with Coade stone vermiculated rustications and head keystones;
panelled doors, sidelights and patterned fanlights. Recessed sashes,
under flat gauged arches to upper floors; No. 102 with mid C.19 stucco
architraves added with pediments on 1st floor. 1st floor plat band and
sill bands; modillion cornice and blocking course. Cast iron early and
mid C.19 balconies across 1st floor. Cast iron area railings, original
with flambe urn finials to No.102, and plumbed spikes to No. 100.
Interiors retain some good internal features common to this 1770s Harley
Street development of speculative 1st rate houses; stone staircases with
wrought iron balustrade to No. 100 and plain cast iron one to No. 102;
some fluted friezes and stucco mythological medallions framed by garlands
over chimneypieces; etc.
