Near this place lyeth Interrd the Body of William Welles Esquire, the only surviving Son of William Welles Esquire by Mary his Wife Daughter of Francis Nedham of Gadsby in this County Esquire. He married Mary the Eldest daughter of John Simons of Belgrave Esquire by whom he left no Issue. He Livd Belovd and Dyd Lamented 3 Dec 1741 Aged 29 Years and 2 Months. Shield with Arms: Or a lion rampant double queued (two tails) sable, armed and langued gules (Welles), impaling Azure a fess engrailed between three demi lions rampant or (Symons). (Needham of Gaddesby would have been Argent a bend engrailed azure between two bucks heads cabossed sable attired or). (Photo Apr 2014).
