House. Late C17 formerly dated 1683. Coursed sandstone rubble with stone slate roof. Lobby-entry plan with one bay to each side of 2-storey gabled porch and with cross-wing at left (east). 2 storeys. Windows are double-chamfered with mullions and hoods. The windows are of 3 lights except for one of 5 lights to the left of the porch on the ground floor. The cross-wing has a window on each floor towards the left and a stair window of 3 lights with transom to the right. The 1st floor window of the porch has 2 lights. Below it a hood encloses an empty recess which formerly carried a plaque with the initial 'S' I M F S and the date 1683. The outer doorway has a moulded rounded arch and moulded imposts. The inner doorway has a wooden frame. Interior: middle room has 2 chamfered axial beams and a fireplace bressumer supported on a stone heck. Within the inglenook is a C19 plain stone fireplace. The 2 ground-floor rooms of the cross-wing are divided by a timber-framed partition; there is a stone fireplace with triangular-headed lintel on the upper floor of the cross-wing (former parlour chamber). The roof trusses have tie beams and raking struts. The house was in a derelict condition at time of survey (February 1987) with a large part of the roof covering missing. The house was formerly called Scott's Fold (Victoria County History).
