SJ 87 NE ALDERLEY EDGE C.P MOTTRAM ROAD

5/62 Saddlebole Farmhouse.

II

Farmhouse: C17 or earlier, walls rebuilt early C18 and C20
alterations and additions. Washed brick on rough sandstone plinth.
Thatched roof and 1 brick chimney. Originally long rectangular plan
now with 2 short ranges to the rear. 1½ storey, 5-bay front. Left
end bay has lean-to porch with Kerridge stone-slate roof. 2nd and 4th
bays have C20 casements below raised brick bands at 1st floor and
3-light casements in thatched raking dormers. Remaining windows are
casements. Left end has a cambered brick head to a 3-light casement
and heavy roof timbers. Some massive irregular stone walling to the
rear.
Interior: Not inspected but reported to contain a number of pairs of
full cruck frames.
