5/88 Higher House Farmhouse

14/4/1967 II

Formerly farmhouse, now house and farmhouse: mid C18 with portions
added to rear. English garden wall bond orange-red brick with buff
sandstone dressings. Kerridge stone-slate roof, stone ridge and 2
gable brick chimneys. 2-storey, symmetrical 3-bay front. Ashlar
plinth, chamfered rusticated quoins, stone band at 1st floor, plain
frieze and projecting cornice. End bays have flush 12-pane sashes
with flat channelled stone heads and stone sills. Roman Doric
doorcase has semi-circular fanlight above repaired 6-panelled door,
approached by 3 stone steps. Parallel range to rear, possibly early
C19 addition has a 2-storey canted bay window and is now a separate
house.
