Royal Arms of George III, originally dating to 1801 -1816. The shield of Hannover in the centre has the Bonnet of the Elector of Hannover on top, instead of the later Crown. These Arms were painted in the late Victorian manner: The masculinity of both supporting animals has been toned down and the lions teeth are not bared in a snarl. As often happens on Georgian Arms, the azure blue Lion rampant of Luneberg has faded and been interpreted by the restorer as a gold (or) Lion. (Photo Sept 2009).
