Terraced town houses. c.1780-90, Portman Estate development. Stock brick
(No. 20 stuccoed); concealed slate roofs. 4 storeys (No. 14 with 5) on
basements. 3-window wide fronts. Semicircular arched doorways to right,
those of Nos. 10 to 16 in rusticated (probably Coade stone) surrounds;
panelled doors,some with side lights and pilaster jambs, under fanlights.
Recessed sashes under flat gauged arches. No. 20 has early C.19 pilaster
framed shop front and pilaster treatment above ground floor; the windows
in stucco architraves. Parapets with stone copings. Cast or wrought
iron, geometric patterned, continuous balconies to 1st floor. Cast iron
area railings with urn finials. No. 12 has L.C.C. plaque recording
residence of the composer M.W. Balfe.
