Woodbine Cottage and attached wall
and steps

Estate cottage, now a house, and attached wall and steps. Mid
C18, altered 1789, and remodelled c1820-1840. Coursed squared
stone with red brick front and ashlar dressings, and pantile
roof. 2 gable stacks with brick bases and square ashlar coped
double flues, the right one external with supporting ashlar
buttresses. Ashlar plinth, dentillated brick eaves, coped
gables. 2 storeys; 2 window range. Windows have stone
surrounds, chamfered mullions and cornices. Two 2-light
windows. Central 4-centred arched ashlar doorcase with plank
door and ornamental hinges, linked on the left to a 4-light
window, under a common cornice. 3 ashlar steps to the door. To
right, a 2-light window with a blank shield incorporated
above. All the windows have diamond pane glazing. At the right
end, a short ashlar wall with a gateway and steps behind it.
This building is one of those built or altered c1790-1820 by
George de Ligne Gregory and remodelled in a picturesque style
c1820-1840 by Gregory Gregory.
