Terraced town houses. c.1780-90, associated with the Duke of Manchester's
development of Manchester Square, on Portman land. Brown brick; concealed
slate roofs. 4 storeys (the top floor as attic storey), on basements.
3-window wide fronts. Semicircular arched doorways to right; panelled
doors with sidelights and fanlights; No. 5 with stuccoed Doric porch.
Recessed sashes, in stuccoed reveals, under flat gauged arches. 1st floor
stucco plat band, painted stone or stucco cornice over 2nd floor and
stucco cornice and blocking course to attic storey. Original, cast iron,
geometric patterned balconies to 1st floor. Cast iron area railings with
urn finials. No. 3 has G.L.C. plaque recording residence of Captain
Marryat and George Grossmith.
