Parish church. Circa 1884 re-using some materials from demolished old church. F. Chancellor. Random septaria, rubble, red and yellow brick, coloured brick dressings. Red plain tiled roofs and buttress capping. Terracotta apex finials to gables. Timber framed steeple, hanging tile base, timber sounding louvres, shingle spire. Chancel, Nave, north vestry, south porch. Buttresses to all angles and centre buttresses to Nave and Chancel north and south walls, similar to west wall. East window of 3 trefoiled lights with quatrefoils and cinquefoil over, 2 centre arched head. Foundation stone under laid by Susanna Claughton, wife of the Bishop of St. Albans 13th August 1883. South wall of Chancel has a lancet window to east, similar to north wall, a cusped 3 light with segmental pointed head to west. Nave south wall, 2 lancets to east with a lancet niche between, two 2 light windows with quatrefoils over, 2 centre arched heads. Lancet to west of south porch. North wall, 2 eastern and 2 western lancets, two 2 light windows with tracery over, that with quatrefoil C14. 2 centre arched heads, between the 2 central buttresses. West wall, 2 trefoiled lancets. All with square leaded coloured glass. Gabled north vestry, stone chimney stack to gable apex, 2 centre arched vertically boarded door to west wall, 2 lancets to north wall. Gabled south porch, timber framed, plinth matching walls. C14 moulded 2 centre arched south doorway with head stops. Vertically boarded door with timber grill and shutter. Interior. 2 C12 head stops in west wall of vestry. Chancel, 6 cant ribbed and ceiled roof, foliate bosses, moulded wall plates. C12 pillar piscina with ring soffit and square drain, spirally fluted shaft in rectangular niche. Segmental head to Chancel arch. Nave. Scissor braced roof, principal rafters on moulded stone corbels. Timber octagonal pulpit with traceried side panels. Old stained glass in north window. C15 octagonal font with moulded soffit, moulded base, octagonal stem, moulded capitals, bases and rings to 4 side shafts. Arcade of 2 bays to bell turret, moulded capitals and bases, moulded 2 centred arches. Bell 1636 by Miles Gray. RCHM 1.
