Milestone. Probably early C19. Stone pillar, possibly Chilmark, with cast
iron plaque. Pillar about 500mm x 400mm on plan, slightly tapering, with
moulded top, about 1 metre high: plaque aboput 450mm wide and 600mm wide
and 600mm deep, with shouldered segmental top and double ogee shaped base, reading 'Wincanton 1 Hindon 13' in recessed lower case lettering. This
road, Mere to Milbourne Port, was taken over by the Wincanton Trust in
1756.
