Description

Railway station. C 1850 Designed by G.T Andrews in the Tudor
style. Coursed rubble and ashlar dressings. Slate roofs with over
hanging eaves and decorative baroc boards with finials. Quorns.
A single and double external chimneys, plus a triple ridge chimney
all with moulded octagonal stacks. L - plan. South-east platform
front has to the left an internal porch with two 4-centred arches
and within a 2 light mullion window and 2 plank doors also within
4-centred arch surrounds. To the right a 2 light canted bay
window. Above two 2 light mullion windows. Beyond to the left
a single storey range with a single 2 light mullion window.
Beyond again a lower timber entrance porch with a gable to the
street, with clap boarding and glazing for windows. Built for the
Yorkshire and North Midland Railway Company.
