to pool in centre of
Stable Block quadrangle

Pool and fountain. Probably c1775 (contemporary with completion
stages of Stable Block (q.v.), later repairs. Ashlar sandstone;
stuccoed brick plinth and stone fountain. Large circular pool with
central fountain set in the middle of the Stable Block quadrangle.
Moulded dwarf wall forms rim; 4 ashlar blocks, set around rim, form
steps. Rendered pool-lining links to tapered pedestal and flared foot
of giant, moulded fountain-bowl. Not in working order at time of resurvey.
