Description

WIDECOMBE-IN-
SX 67 NE THE-MOOR
1/150 New Clapper Bridge on road about
- 150 metres north-east of Lower
Cator Farmhouse
GV II

Clapper bridge over West Webburn river. C18 or early C19. Granite. Consists of a
series of stone lintels running from the abutments to a central pier, the latter
having a well-made cutwater on the upstream side. On each side is a plain wrought-
iron railing consisting of 3 square-section uprights with a loop at the top to carry
a diagonal-set rail.
The bridge has group value with, and possibly supersedes, an older clapper bridge,
now disused, about 15 metres to the south-east.
