Plain tile roof. C17 section, with parallel rear range of probably
slightly later date. Double-depth C18 addition to left. Facade
and internal work by Eden. 2 storeys. Stone plinth to rear of
right section. Pentice with plain tile roof and coved rendered
soffit to length of front elevation. Modillioned wooden eaves
cornice. Hipped roof, hips returning to rear. Two rear hips to
left section and two to right. Two slightly-projecting gable-end
stacks to left. Corniced rear stack to left of centre, between the
two rear sections. Rear elevation of left section has two twenty-
pane first-floor sashes and three eighteen-pane ground-floor sashes,
all with thick glazing-bars. Right section has three three-light
first-floor casements. Irreqular fenestration of 8 leaded casements
to front; two two-light to left, and six cross windows between rear
stack and right end. Seven leaded cross windows to ground floor.
Lower half of each ground-floor window has shutters incised with a
bulbous motif. Door, under third first-floor window from right,
has beaded ogee-eared panels. Red and grey brick lean-to to right
with large corniced red brick stack. Interior: Only partly inspected.
Front range of both sections formed by Eden into long hall with room
at each end. Smaller rooms to rear ranges. Two cross beams towards
right end, with axial beam between them. Shallow canted lateral
fireplace faced with Dutch tiles and with unbracketed, corniced
Continental-style wooden hood. Dutch skirting tiles. Black and
white marble floor (said to have been laid by an Italian
craftsman). Rear left room has bolection-moulded fireplace with
raised moulded panel to overmantle, and fielded panels to door and
window shutters. Central rear room has left end fireplace with
shallow progressively-raised surround. Early C20 panelling in
shallow relief to rest of wall, with round-headed panels to cupboard
doors. Similarly-panelled ground-floor doors. Said to have a
"good staircase". Craftsmanship of high quality.
