Milestone. Early C19 probably. Ham stone pillar, cast iron plaque. Pillar triangular on plan, about 450mm wide on
principal faces and 300mm wide at back, about 700mm high, with roughly rounded top: plaques about 350mm wide x 100mm
deem, with curved drop under, reading 'YEOVIL/5 and a half' on west side and 'ILMINSTER/8' on east. This road was one
of the original roads administered by the spinster Trust, set up in 1759, and was turnpiked in that year. (Bentley J.
B and Murless B. J., Somerset Roads, SIAS, 1985).
